Volcanic Rock, or Lava Rock, is very porous and makes an excellent filter media. It provides a lot of surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize and grow. It can be used as decorative element in your shrimp tanks, as it can provide good hiding areas and surface area for biofilm.
